My Story

While juggling an executive position with a leading Boston nonprofit, a lengthy daily work commute and coordinating caregiving for a beloved elderly parent, I discovered my life was out of balance and that I needed help quickly.  I discovered and attended a class at The Chopra Center in Southern CA entitled "Perfect Health" with Dr. David Simon, co-founder of the Center, and davidji, Lead Educator, which helped shift the trajectory of my life significantly. After attending several Chopra Center classes on health and well-being, Dr. Simon suggested I become a certified meditation teacher, which led to my further journey on this path of integrated wellness.  Eventually, I relocated to Southern CA and worked full-time until 2020 in fundraising for a San Diego hospice foundation while continuing to integrate these practices.  Mindfulness and meditation are threads woven through my daily life and bind together my spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. Now in semi-retirement, I welcome the opportunity to share these effective and simple techniques with others, particularly to those who are feeling the stress of living through a pandemic.

Science-Backed Benefits of Meditation

Improves Moods
After researchers at John Hopkins University analyzed 47 trials (which included over 3,500 people), they concluded that mindfulness meditation programs could help decrease anxiety, according to a meta-analysis published in
JAMA Internal Medicine.


Helps Control Food Cravings
In a study published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Dr. Judson Brewer and a team of researchers at Brown University created an app designed to use elements of meditation and mindfulness to reduce cravings. At the end of the trial, they'd curbed craving-related munching by 40 percent.

Improves Memory
According to research conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, meditation can enhance gray matter in the hippocampus, an area important for learning and memory.

Reduces Pain
In a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, after participants were given four days of mindfulness training, they reported a 40 percent reduction in pain intensity.
